WordPress Theme “Laboratories and Research Centers” – an open-source model for research

Laboratories and Research Centers is a WordPress theme developed by the Scuola Normale Superiore, designed to provide a modern, accessible, and easy-to-update showcase for research structures: laboratories, centers, and scientific groups.

Based on the official website model for Italian schools, this theme offers a ready-to-use framework with predefined content that simplifies and speeds up the creation of a professional website.
Key features include:

• staff directory, organized by structure;
• scientific publications;
• research projects;
• research activities (with the option to group multiple projects);
• news and events related to research activities.

The goal is to highlight and give visibility to research activities and staff, facilitating communication with the public and institutions.

Available for reuse

In line with the Italian national guidelines on software reuse in Public Administration, the theme’s source code is available for reuse by any interested Public Administration. This allows universities and public institutions to adopt it for free, customize it to their needs, and put it online quickly—significantly reducing development costs.

To try the system locally, simply use the Dockerfile included in the project’s source code.
