Backup and Disaster Recovery

Scuola Normale Superiore operates backup and disaster recovery systems to ensure data protection and business continuity for its main IT services. Services covered by backup procedures include file servers, centralized authentication systems, firewalls, DNS and DHCP services.

Backups are performed daily and replicated to an alternative site located in the secondary data center. Data availability is further protected through infrastructure redundancy and virtualization technologies designed to minimize the impact of hardware failures and adverse events.

The backup platform supports the replication and protection of entire virtual machines as well as the recovery of complete systems or individual files. The same technologies simplify disaster recovery procedures and help ensure the availability of mission-critical applications and services.

For critical administrative data, additional backup copies are maintained on dedicated cloud infrastructures.

Features

  • Perform daily backups of the School’s main IT services.
  • Replicate virtual machines and critical services.
  • Recover files, folders or complete systems following accidental deletion or service failures.
  • Ensure service continuity through redundant infrastructures.
  • Support disaster recovery procedures for mission-critical services.
  • Maintain backup copies with different retention and granularity levels.

Requirements

  • Data must be stored on School-managed systems covered by backup policies.
  • Recovery requests must include sufficient information to identify the data to be restored.
