Copernico: Administrative File Server

Copernico is the administrative file server of the Scuola Normale Superiore used for storing and sharing documents managed by the central administration. Data is organized into shared workspaces assigned to the different offices and services of the School.

The platform is hosted on Microsoft Cloud infrastructure and can be accessed both from the internal network and remotely using institutional credentials. Access is available through a web browser or by synchronizing folders on a personal device.

Copernico allows users to work directly on cloud-hosted documents and keep files and folders synchronized between their computer and the shared School environment.

For macOS users, integration is available through Microsoft OneDrive, while Linux users can rely on compatible open-source synchronization tools.

Get started

  1. Access the Copernico portal using the institutional account.
  2. Open the main service page.
  3. Select the button associated with the user’s service folder.
  4. Open the folder assigned to the organizational unit.
  5. Manage files and folders directly within the cloud environment.
  6. Select the “Sync” function to synchronize data locally.
  7. Confirm synchronization through Microsoft OneDrive.
  8. Access synchronized folders through the operating system file manager.

FAQ

Access methods vary depending on the operating system being used.

For macOS:

  • Install the Microsoft OneDrive application.
  • Configure folder synchronization through OneDrive.

For Linux:

  • No official Microsoft client is available for OneDrive and SharePoint Online synchronization.
  • Open-source alternatives compatible with these services can be used.

For smartphones and tablets:

  • Microsoft OneDrive is available for Android and iOS devices.
  • Accessing Copernico resources through a web browser and Microsoft 365 services is recommended.

Users must contact the HelpDesk service and provide the names of the files or folders together with any information useful for recovery.

Copernico can be used directly through a web browser or by synchronizing your service's folder on your computer. The two methods can be used together.

For the first access:

  • Connect to the Copernico website using your institutional account.
  • On the main page, select the "FOLDER" button under "Select your Service folder".
  • Open the folder associated with your service.
  • At this point, you can already work directly with files and folders stored in the cloud.

To configure synchronization on your computer:

  • Open your service folder.
  • Select the "Sync" option from the menu bar.
  • Confirm the operation when prompted.
  • On Windows, the synchronized folder will appear in File Explorer as "Scuola Normale Superiore - service acronym".

Shared storage space must be used in accordance with the University's policies.

In particular:

  • Storing unlicensed software is not permitted.
  • Sharing music, videos or other content without the necessary rights is not permitted.
  • Shared service folders should not be used to store backup copies of personal files.
  • Personal documents should be stored in the user's personal OneDrive space.
  • For all other aspects related to the use of ICT resources, the School's policies apply.
